Regressive taxes are typically applied to goods and services that are considered essential or necessary, such as food, utilities, and transportation. These taxes are often indirect.
Examples of regressive taxes include sales taxes, excise taxes, property taxes, user fees, sin taxes, tariffs, flat taxes, gasoline tax, consumption taxes, and payroll taxes.
Advantage of regressive tax system is its simplicity & lower administrative costs. It requires fewer resources to implement and enforce, resulting in lower costs to government.
