The Securities Industry Essentials Exam is a standardized test administered by FINRA designed to assess basic knowledge of the securities industry for individuals seeking to enter or work within it.
The SIE exam is administered via a computer at a designated testing center. The exam consists of 75 multiple-choice questions and candidate must achieve a score of 70% or higher to pass the exam.
Individuals who are at least 18 years old are eligible to take the SIE Exam. Unlike other FINRA exams, candidates do not need to be sponsored by a member firm to take the SIE Exam.
Candidates have 1 hour and 45 minutes (105 minutes) to complete the Securities Industry Essentials exam, which includes an optional tutorial and a brief survey at the end.
The cost to take the Securities Industry Essentials Exam is approximately $80. Keep in mind that this fee covers the cost of the exam itself and may not include any additional study materials.
SIE Exam dates are flexible and can be scheduled by candidates at their convenience, as the exam is offered year-round at various designated testing centers.
